A Love That Sees Beyond

A Love That Sees Beyond

Nov 21, 2024

When I was working on Who Am I?, one of the most powerful verses that inspired me was Romans 8:39: “No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord” (NLT). It's a verse that speaks of God’s unbreakable, unstoppable love—the kind that remains even when we've wandered, even when we feel too far gone to find our way back.

One of the coloring pages that I chose to accompany this devotional features an image of a beautiful woman standing under the vast sky. Rays of sunlight break through the heavens above her, surrounding her with warmth and light. But she isn’t dressed like everyone else. Instead, she’s adorned herself with leaves, flowers, and gems—an outfit that’s uniquely hers, a statement of her creativity and spirit.
As I looked at this image, I couldn't help but imagine how she might feel. Picture it: A woman who stands out, whose choices set her apart. Perhaps she's been judged for being different, misunderstood by those around her. The isolation of being mocked or excluded can easily lead to feeling unloved or unworthy. Yet, there’s a deeper truth that this image speaks to, and it’s one that God whispers into each of our hearts.

Her creativity—the very thing that makes her unique—isn’t a flaw; it’s a gift from God. Even if others don’t understand her or misinterpret her intentions, God sees the beauty in her. He knows what lies deep in her heart, cherishes her uniqueness, and loves her unconditionally.

When it came time to color this page, I knew exactly where I wanted to focus. I drew out the longing in her eyes — that particular kind of searching that women carry but rarely name. Her gaze is directed slightly away from the sun, which represents God's love shining down on her. I sat with that for a while. How often do we do the same? We're vaguely aware of His love — sensing it somewhere in the background — but our focus is elsewhere, tangled in worry or self-doubt. We don't always turn toward the warmth. It becomes an afterthought instead of the thing holding us together.

This devotional is for those moments when we doubt God’s love, thinking it might apply to everyone else but not to us. It’s a reminder that His love isn’t conditional. It doesn’t waver based on how we feel or how others see us. It stands firm, even when we’re hurt or when our past makes it difficult to trust. His love for us is constant, regardless of our mistakes or our struggles.

Nothing can separate us from God’s love. It’s a love that doesn’t just accept us but celebrates the very things that make us different — it delights in them. As you color this page and reflect on the rays of light surrounding the woman, let yourself be reminded: God’s love shines on you, even now, even in the middle of whatever you're carrying. Even when you’re turned away. He's not waiting for you to get it together. He's just waiting for you.

If this resonated with you, I'd love to invite you into Color, Reflect, Breathe — a free 3-day devotional designed for the woman who needs a quiet moment more than another to-do. It includes a coloring page, a short daily reflection, and space to just… breathe.
